THOMAS TOSH (SAWADA) & WABI SABI BLUES BAND

Thomas Tosh and Wabi Sabi Blues Band is a Japanese-Canadian music band lead by singer and guitarist Thomas Tosh Sawada. They exist in various forms from full scale scale bands that include rhythm section, Japanese koto and horn section to smaller units.

The band was formed in 2023 by Thomas Tosh during the recording of the band’s first album Blue Period, released in June of 2023. The sound centers around the blues but incorporates various elements such as traditional Japanese instruments in particular the koto as well as other western instruments, to create unique crossovers which still sticking to traditional blues forms.

“Wabi Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic sensibility based on simplicity, space, imperfections and the fleeting nature of existence. Blues contains, by default, various aspects of Wabi Sabi creating a natural and interesting blend of sounds, atmosphere and emotions.”

Thomas Tosh Sawada was raised in Toronto, Canada and has been living in Japan since 1996 when he debuted with jazz funk band Unlimited Edition for Mercury Music Entertainment. Since then he has been active as singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer in various capacities. Thomas Tosh and Wabi Sabi Blues Bandは ボーカル&ギターのThomas Tosh Sawada（トーマス・トッシュ・サワダ）が率いる日本とカナダの音楽バンドです。リズムセクション、日本の箏、ホーンセクションを含む本格的なバンドから、小規模なユニットまで、さまざまな構成で演奏します。

この多様なバンドは、2023年6月に発売された1stアルバム『Blue Period』のレコーディング中に、Thomas Tosh Sawadaによって結成されました。ブルースを中心としたサウンドに日本の箏をフィーチャーしたことで、さまざまな要素をバランスよく組み込んだ画期的な音楽に到達しました。伝統的なブルースにこだわりながらも、独自のクロスオーバーを生み出すことに成功しています。

バンド名につく "わびさび" は、簡素な空間、非対称の美、時の移ろいの中で感じられる深い味わいなどの日本の美意識ですが、ブルースには、デフォルトで "わびさび"のような要素が含まれており、サウンド、雰囲気、気持ちのゆれなど、ナチュラルで興味のつきないブレンドになっています。
